In memory of . . .Dan Patterson
"IN MEMORY OF DAN PATTERSON" (2005) – The following is a small description of how and where Dan touched our lives and some pictures of his awesome work.
Dan Patterson painted for BIGFOOT® for over 20 years and was practically considered one of the “family”. No matter how busy his schedule was he always found time to deal with an emergency paint job! And Dan’s schedule was very busy. He painted large race boats to tractor-trailers to cars to monster trucks. He also did most of the lettering on the BIGFOOT trucks and the tractor-trailers, which is often the most difficult job. Anyone who has seen his work would agree that it is awesome!
All of Dan’s work stood out as the best of the best. His talent ranged from the many creative BIGFOOT paint schemes he designed (see photo gallery below) over the years to the actual airbrushing itself. Whether he was lettering “Bob & Marilyn Chandler’s” across the tailgate on all the BIGFOOT bodies or he was airbrushing the Arch and the Grand Canyon on the Firestone Destination trailer, you always knew that it would turn out great!
To the people who have been around BIGFOOT for a long time, Dan was also a friend. Over the years he developed a great friendship with the entire Chandler family. Ann (Chandler) Trent and her husband Bob (both BIGFOOT Officers) and their kids became especially close friends. Dan designed and painted Ann and Bob’s canoe with a crazy psycho fish on the side and lettered Bob’s lawnmower.
On the beach in Florida one year, Dan spent time with the kids designing elaborate sand creations. He gave Drew Trent first real art supply kit, even going so far as to give him beginning art lessons. During the NFL season, Dan and his long-time girlfriend, Mary, were regular guests at the Trents’ weekly Rams parties.
Halloween was always a big deal for Dan. It seemed to really bring out the creative genius in him. Every year he showed up at parties with new, unique costumes. One year he was a dog , which is truly ironic because he always walked around barking like a dog, even while lettering a truck. Other years he came as a cardinal, a penguin and a witch doctor. In addition, he played the character of the costume, whatever it was. Dan’s sense of humor was often pretty off the wall, but he always seemed to make us laugh!
From everyone here at the BIGFOOT family, we send our condolences to Dan’s family and all of his other friends. He will be missed by all of us!
